BTW, yes I've noticed I use a lot more hashtags than many users. It's not bc I haven't spotted the norms. I don't yet know a lot of people on a personal level around here & want those I have anything in common with to be able to find me.
See, the more ppl I have on my list, the more ppl I'll be able to bring here from elsewhere bc I'll have done the legwork of finding interesting folk who talk about multiple things. This is me starting at square one so my other friends might not have to.
@Cobalt I'm attempting to use more hashtags than I used to; I grew up too long ago for social media to be part of my instincts, so I keep forgetting they exist.
I believe the etiquette on many instances is to use more than other networks anyway because one can't search toots apart from through hashtags.
@Cobalt
I constantly tag #Houston so that when I try to talk to locals about my instance, I can eventually, hopefully tell them a lot of people around town use Mastodon.
It's not true yet, and it mostly gets me followed by folks from switter (hey, y'all! 😸), but like you said, one has to start somewhere.
