@dzuk I'm not proud of this (and I'm not a big hard scary guy either) but from 1970s (infant school) until mid 1980s (pre teen) was regularly involved in *physical fights* against racists.
In spite of these lads being bigger than me I often won (and then accused of not "fighting fair" 😆 ).
Even then it was only a temporary solution, hate remained on both sides.
To this day I still "look over my shoulder" (I'm an ethnic minority and a *cyclist*, so am double target)

Also up until early last year (before joining Mastodon), I had ignorant ideas (not hostile, I never condoned aggressive acts or harassment, but I had a lot of what you could say, unhelpful and ignorant Liberal/centrist ideas) about social justice and such. Then I was exposed to certain things in the internet and elsewhere and changed my mind quite sharply.
IDK, change happens, it's not easy, and it's rarely something you can talk someone out of IMO.
