NAS, the name of the plague, was probs a reference to Network Attached Storage.
Ono was probs a reference to Ono Sendai, a real company named after a fictional cyber-deck from the novel which Johnny Mnemonic was loosely based on. Or maybe the fictional device was named after the real company. The real company made an unreleased VR headset for the Sega Genesis.

Coincidentally, this film (Johnny Mnemonic) also takes place during a pandemic, but it's a lot more fun and campy. Would absolutely recommend watching, it has Keanu Reeves in it, why wouldn't you watch it.
