If you've ever dreamt of getting your #RainCatchment on, Saturday, Sept 14 from 10am-12pm at the Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church is the place to be.
Sponsored by the city (who is probably offering discounts on cisterns), the snacks are likely the perview of the church, and I can say they do really good cookies on Art Walk nights.

If anything can make me OK with staying in this country, it's people like Jayapal, Raskin and the volunteer organisers who helped make this happen. People who don't pretend there was a golden age to return to, don't hype the inherent wonderfulness of America, but have a clear vision of what it _could_ be, why that's worth fighting for, and how to do it.
And if you want to watch the whole thing, it's streamable at https://www.wisconsingazette.com/multimedia/live-impeachment-teach-in-with-house-champs-reps-jayapal-and/youtube_5714bff8-45b8-5a53-9111-42906eae837f.html
¤ They have no time for the "but this might make us unpopular" objection, repeatedly stressing that this is the right thing to do and there have to be consequences for serious wrongdoing.
¤ ...but having said that, they have a clear strategic sense of how to potentially make impeachment stick, which rests on being able to use the hearings to shift public opinion. (2/3)
Today we went to a teach-in about impeachment, which was informative and surprisingly uplifting. A few things struck me:
¤ Jayapal actually gets how to talk about the US in a way that acknowledges the positive things the founders were trying to do, and the good things that have happened here, without ever seeming to minimise all the evil.
¤ They're clearly not just fighting the current arsehole, but also seeing an urgent need to rebalance powers between Congress and presidency. (...)
imagine hating homeless people so much that you camp out on the sidewalk and go on hunger strike to make sure that homeless people have to ... uh *checks notes* ... camp on the sidewalks and go without food
#learningDutch can anyone recommend some people who broadcast stuff in dutch? (via podcast or youtube channel)
I love stuff about knitting, tattoos, metal, environmentalism, queer + trans stuff, but I'm open to almost anything.
- kludged-together clusterfuck
- many decisions were made to keep compatibility with old versions despite that not really making sense
- a whole lot of arcane logic that only makes sense if you really drive into the history of it
- bad to do math in
- basically everyone needs to know it at least a little
- lingua franca because the predominant powers on Earth just so happen to use them
did you know tony iommi had a physical disability. he was a guitarist before he lost the tips of his fingers in a factory accident. he was gonna quit playing but his foreman told him about django reinhardt. he compensated for his loss of finger control by playing with a thimble and drop tuning the strings, so he literally invented metal because of how his disability transformed his playing
Today I learned that the vocal sample "out on the streets they call it murder":
- Is from this song by Ini Kamoze:
- is *not* murder but "merther" a word meaning a music & dub-induced trance.
Randy Halprin is a Jewish death row inmate. His trial judge called him a "fuckin' Jew" and a "goddamn kike" and said Jews must "be shut down because they controlled all the money and all the power.”
Texas will execute Halprin on Oct 10.
