Is there a phrase for disliking the concept of gender, disliking the gendering of things, and the performance of gender as it currently is while not feeling uncomfortable with your assigned gender?
@savagegoose So I've come to a couple realizations in the past couple of years. One is that some of my dislike for the performance of gender is actually a sneaky form of discomfort with my assigned gender (although some of it is also still purely political). The other is that having a strong wish that gender would just stop is enough to "qualify" as agender, if I want, and there isn't actually a standardized test you have to pass to get in anyway.
@savagegoose I still end up calling myself "agender spectrum" rather than unqualified "agender" usually. It seems to create fewer assumptions about how I'll want to pronoun etc.
@mcmoots that makes sense.
I don't really know if this is the right sentiment but it's close: I'm not uncomfortable performing my assigned gender but I am uncomfortable with others policing how I perform gender and policing how others perform gender.
@savagegoose If such a phrase does start to gain traction I'll use it to describe myself. "Demigender" (and the demi-girl/demi-boy descriptors) approaches the bit about low attachment to a gender but reinforces rather than resists a world with gendered everything.

@paisley that is such a good thread, thank you for sharing it.
Your criticism of demigender is why I'm uncomfortable with the term. This is kinda like gender apathy or gender ambivalence, which seems close to genderqueer or non-binary but those terms aren't quite right.
Ambivalence is close to the word I'm looking for, more so than apathetic. Idk. I have a very "feminine" body, and I've wondered how much that plays into this. I love my body as it exists, but it genders me.
