dawn spoilers (mostly just navel gazing about themes)
I finished Dawn. It’s interesting. I think it’s going to stick with me for a while the way real good stories do. At first I thought it was going to be a relatively straightforward allegory about colonization, and how the extreme power imbalance makes “fair-trade” something of a farce. And it is that, but it’s interestingly intersectional in how it is that and also a critique of bodice ripper erotica novels. #sffbookclub #amreading
The Book for November will be The Tea Master and the Detective. (This time with the correct hashtag)
I know it's a book about cats, but Kirri the Mongoose was 💯 my favorite part of the book.
I found it profoundly gratifying when Kirri caught up with Datura.

I thought this podcast was really interesting. It kept reminding me of Binti and Three Body Problem.

Three Body Problem(whole book)/Dark Forest(character list) spoilers
Da Shi was hands down the best character in Three Body Problem. I am really glad to see his name in the character list for book two.
Three Body Problem spoilers
I was just thinking about how in the universe of the book, being a theoretical phycist is more dangerous than cave diving. If you're not being tortured to death by the Red Guard, you're being driven insane by aliens.
Three Body Problem (whole book)
I feel like there is a parallel to be drawn between The Biologist in Annihilation and Ye Wenjie.
They both feel alienated from humanity or maybe they feel overly connected to the rest of nature.
