You know what is wrong with modern phones? No rotary dials.

Ever since rotary dials have gone, people have become less and less comfortable making phone calls. Why? Phone calls always were horrible, but at least you could look forward to playing with the neat fidget spinner.

@eldaking no one made frivolous calls with a rotary: you either had the focus and strength to dial, or you sent a handwritten letter.

@eldaking For me, phone calls became easier when I could first enter the number (and/or select it from contacts or speed dials) and then jazz myself up and the hit the dial key.

In the age of rotary, it was terrifying because misdials happened a lot and people would bite your ear off, and even when you wanted to call up the person you wanted to hang out with it was a slow, deliberate, tension-building, anticipatory, number-by-clclclclicking-number, one-digit-at-a-time, wait-for-the-tone, wait-for-the-pickup process. "Hiiii would you [inaudible mumbling] would you wanna go out wi– no?"
